MEASUREMENT GUIDE

To avoid confusion, we only work with millimetres.
UK, French, or US sizing systems are not used.
The MyFoot size chart reflects the gross dimensions of the last.
Keep in mind that both the foot and the insert (insole/orthotic) must fit within this space.

FITTING

KEY CONSIDERATIONS

  • A shoe is not a static object and can slightly adapt to the shape of the foot.
    Minor differences in width often have little impact on fit, as long as the required volume is present.
  • It’s best to include the insert/insole/orthotic during measurement, if already available.
  • Instep volume can vary depending on how tightly or loosely the shoes are fastened.
    The instep size in the chart should therefore be seen as an indication.
    For significantly high insteps, we recommend adding a module to the last.
  • All MyFoot lasts are designed with a slimmer heel area than the forefoot (broken last shape).
REQUIRED MATERIALS

REQUIRED MATERIALS
A footprint or sheet of paper (A4 or larger);
A pen or pencil;
A measuring tape (in millimetres);

STEP 1

PREPARATION

  • Have the person stand upright, distributing weight evenly on both feet.
  • Measure preferably at the end of the day (When the feet are slightly swollen).
  • Measure both feet; use the larger foot as the reference.

STEP 2

TRACE THE FOOT

  • Place the paper on a hard, flat surface.
  • Have the person stand on it wearing a sock.
  • Hold the pen vertically and carefully trace the outline of the foot.
  • Repeat for both feet.

STEP 3

MEASURE THE LENGTH

  • Measure the distance from the back of the heel to the tip of the longest toe.
  • Record this length in millimetres.
Step 3 illustration
STEP 4

ADD ALLOWANCE

  • Add 1.5 cm (15 mm) to the measured foot length for comfort and toe room.

STEP 5

DETERMINE SIZE USING THE MYFOOT SIZE CHART

  • Use the total length (foot length + allowance) to find the appropriate last length in the size chart.
  • Choose the size that comes closest to this total length (round up if in between sizes).

STEP 6

MEASURE BALL GIRTH (INCLUDING INSERT)

  • Use a measuring tape to measure the ball girth at the widest point of the forefoot.
  • Add the insert thickness to this measurement:
      Insert thickness under the ball ×2 = extra girth
      Ball girth + extra girth = total required girth

  • Tip: If the patient has hallux valgus (bunion), measure ball girth both before and after the bunion.
    The average will provide a more accurate representation.
    Extra space for the bunion can later be added using a module on the last.

STEP 7

MEASURE BALL WIDTH FROM FOOTPRINT

  • Measure the width at the widest point of the ball of the foot on the traced outline.
  • Record this measurement in centimeters.

  • Tip: In case of hallux valgus, draw an imaginary line from the big toe to the arch to estimate an average width.
    Extra space for the bunion can also be added later via a module.

  • NOTE: Point 2 the size table
    The width in the MyFoot chart refers to the bottom plate of the last, which tapers to create a slimmer, more stylish silhouette.
    As a result, the bottom is narrower than the top (where the insert sits).

STEP 8

DETERMINE LAST WIDTH

  • Based on the chosen last length, select the width that most closely matches your calculated total girth.
  • If adjustment is needed:
      Excess girth:
        Compensate with a thicker insert or a thin filler sole beneath the insert;
      Insufficient girth:
        Deepen the last (adds volume without changing the fit);
        Use a ‘last widening’ module (medial/lateral) — note that this also increases ball width, so factor this into your decision;
    NOTE: Ball width adjustment is only necessary if the foot is more than ±6–8 mm wider than the base plate of the last.

PREPARING THE ORDER

  • Make sure to record the following details:
      🞄 Last length size;
      🞄 Last width size;
      🞄 Toe shape (Standard or Natural);
      🞄 Any required last modules;
